WE BUILD EXCITEMENT
Ponder Pontiac's "Afrocentric" ad, where the smiling black professor lady says that the pyramids were originally shaped like the Washington monument. Ignoring the obvious angle (Sir Mix-a-Lot being unavailable due to the overt Honda reference in "Baby Got
Back"), Pontiac tries to score points with viewers who dislike
Leonard Jefferies: The commercial shows an academic making a statement about the pyramids which is historically false but
serves the transparent
ulterior motive of the ad. All this to promote a car whose only distinguishing feature is if it's doing 90 on a hairpin curve being driven by a coyote, it won't flip over. Maybe. Let's not wait to find out. Ban all Pontiacs from NYU.
