MOVIES IN THE SHADOW OF IRONY, cont.

DECONSTRUCTING JERRY

The original neurotic working-class hero comes up against his biggest hurdle yet: class climbing! After several glasses of the best cabernet, our Woody discovers the key to sucking up to loaded WASPs: recounting favorite Seinfeld episodes. Quelle ironique! And to think that all his pathological narcissism and sexual perversion were for naught! Featuring an unending stream of pointless appearances by major motion-picture stars. (Clearly, promising people cameos is yet another successful suck-up tactic!) What will Woody conquer next? Debutante balls? Knighthood?

BAG THE COOKIE LOG

In a stunning follow-up to the classic My Life as a Cookie Log, a devil-may-care wheeler-deeler masterminds a super-crafty scheme to divert the American public's attention from a major national chocolate-chip cookie log shortage. To draw attention away from the sudden lack of those handy tubes of refrigerated cookie dough, he starts a fake pop band with cool clothes and "rebellious" attitudes and then throws them all in jail on drug charges. Sounds a little extreme to most viewers, until shortly after the film's premiere, when an actual cookie log supply shortage incites panic nationwide.
