Let us give thanks
for strong coffee
and fall days
and little dogs with short legs
and show-offs
and the unsophisticated
and all those unencumbered
by the paralysis of self-consciousness
or critical thought that shows up
in the wrong places
at the wrong times.
Here's hoping we'll get cheesier
and cheesier and cheesier
as we get older,
so cheesy our kids will make fun of us
and we won't care;
we'll just laugh in their faces
and maybe even send them
to their rooms
without dinner,
just 'cause we can,
because we're the bosses of them.
Bahahaha!
Even pathetic little lives
are worth living,
and for that, we're truly thankful.
