This same supporter also told me that the one major network reporter who was assigned to cover the Keyes campaign was so swayed by Keyes's oratory that he gave up his "pro-choice" stance and is now an ardent pro-lifer! When asked if this was why the network reassigned him only two months into the campaign, the supporter just shrugged and said "I wouldn't be surprised..."

However, after Keyes backed out of a scheduled speech at Claremont-McKenna College the very next morning (no reason given), I began to wonder if ABC yanked their man because he didn't have anything to cover! Still, I was more than eager to meet this "great persuader" and give him the fair shake that he was seemingly being deprived of.
