Most people's knee-jerk reaction would say the latter, since he disagrees with liberal democrats (and by extension, most self-described black leaders) on just about everything — such as that latest big bugaboo: "racial profiling," over which Keyes tries to draw a distinction between bigotry and a policeman's being allowed to rely on his "judgment and experience." He also criticizes black liberals for "molly-coddling" young black offenders, whom he looks upon as a "disgrace to their race." It's no wonder so few young blacks are rallying around Keyes's cause. He's like, SQUARESVILLE, man!

Statements like these also make Keyes a threat to anyone who feels that Black America must present a unified front to avoid being divided and conquered by the "enemy" (i.e.: the white majority). Yet many African Americans ARE just as conservative as Keyes is, and Keyes himself hardly suffers from denial over the unbelievable amount of crap that blacks still have to put up with on a daily basis. He even lambasts his own G.O.P. for its long-standing indifference to black voters, although he despises the Democrats even more (and by extention most established "Black Leaders") for selling out to the Federal Government, who in his eyes has become the new "Massah." Keyes is critical of the status quo in general, which means he has a bone to pick with EVERYBODY.
