In 1955 rock 'n' roll was exciting and new. It was shocking, and it freaked out the old folks. Now it's 45 years old and doesn't freak out anybody. And so what? Seeing Chuck Berry's guitar hanging on a wall doesn't mean his music sucks now, or has now been rendered meaningless. All it means was that the music he made in his youth meant a whole hell of a lot to a hell of a lot of people. It's a part of history. Yet this inevitable turn of events is considered a tragedy to some, a joke to others. Why? What crime was committed? What mistake was made?

Okay, let's say you don't like Chuck Berry, or you're "sick" of his music. I'm sick of the Mona Lisa, but does that mean it should be taken out of the Louvre, or should be hidden away in some billionaire's PRIVATE collection? And comparing some rock musician's guitar to a master painting isn't as ridiculous as it sounds, either. At one time the Mona Lisa was just a painting. Would you prefer that reminders of his music — or whatever music meant the world to you when YOU were 16 years old — should just be discarded? If so then what's that Donny Osmond lunch box doing on your mantelpiece? And how much did say you paid for it? Jeezus!
