Buchanan's critics do seem to have a well-founded and well-documented case against him, though the reasons behind it may not be as simple as Hagelin's more spirited supporters make them out to be. According to the socialist-leaning former Independence Party candidate (and a highly unlikely albeit short-lived supporter of Pat's Reform candidacy) Dr. Lenora Fulani, it was ALL ABOUT THE MONEY...
The money Dr. Fulani is referring to is $12.6 million in Federal "Matching Funds" (our tax dollars, in other words): free dough that is routinely given away to the major party candidates (the result of some post-Watergate attempt at "Campaign Finance Reform"). Dr. Fulani herself once received over $1 million in matching funds while running for President as an "Independent" back in 1988, so she's an old pro at how to toot yer own horn on the public's dime. More recently the Reform Party applied for this taxpayer-funded windfall thanks to Ross Perot's 8% or more showing in the last two presidential elections.
