Speaking of scoops, I
did stumble across what at first looked like the
beginning of World War Three when a bazillion cops suddenly swarmed like
locusts, blocking off a whole city block in the blink of an eye. And I mean
they CHOKED it off, cramming the entire block with as many police vehicles as
was physically possible while not allowing even office workers to return from
their afternoon coffee breaks.
"What's going on?" was on everyone's lips, since as far as anyone could
tell NOTHING was going on, when suddenly an eager young reporter standing
next to me is phoning in the hot poop that he just gleaned from the
sergeant-at-arms at the head of blockade...
"Anarchists!" he
frantically whispered into his cell phone while trying
to keep my prying, too-lazy-to-get-my-own-scoop ears at bay. "DOZENS of
them! The cops just thwarted a full-scale terrorist attack! We're
witnessing a MASS ARREST!" We ARE? Where? WHAT "terrorists"?
Not wanting to annoy the fierce looking Sergeant-at-Arms with the same
old questions, I turned to a handful of green-haired teens who were present,
wondering if maybe it was their FRIENDS who were getting arrested. According
to them it was just a handful of animal rights activists who got busted after
knocking over a display in a furrier store. There's your "terrorist attack,"
folks!
