There were still a few straggling protesters milling about (and I'm using
the term "protesters" VERY loosely, since what had just occurred was little
more than yer typical rock 'n' roll riot along with some pepper spray
and
rubber bullets to give everyone present a lifetime's worth of bragging
rights), and us old folks had to walk a mini-gauntlet through them, as they
shouted some politically flavored epithets in our direction...
After one or two blocks of this nonsense the coast was suddenly,
amazingly clear. Apparently the cops were off corralling the majority of
hell-raisers in some other direction. Whew!
Once I got to the parking garage, I saw some poor guy herding his
frazzled womenfolk into a rented limo. Once they were all safely tucked
inside I made some joke like "That wasn't so bad, now was it?" He laughed a
bit TOO hard, relieved at not having to wash pepper spray out of his
mother-in-law's eyes.
