Not all the old-timers are particularly upset about the recent changes,
however. For example, the barmaid in the Smokeroom LOVES the fact that the
Sunset Tavern next door (which is now basically a music venue) only has a
beer and wine license, which compels some of their customers to pop on over
for a quick stiff shot of something harder now and then. "These young
fellahs are always polite, and they tip well. What do I care if they're
'yuppies'? It's fine with me if they completely take over the block," says
the suddenly tolerant, open-minded barmaid. Ka-ching!
![]() The same goes for the handful of the old-timers who still hang out at to
Hattie's. They're actually GLAD that the more belligerent drunks are gone
for good, and they no longer have to keep one eye on them as they try to
nurse their beer in peace. Instead they get to keep both eyes on the cute
young fillies who are suddenly hanging out at the joint a vast improvement
over the shrieking, toothless hags who traditionally dominated these places,
and would bash you over the head just for looking at them funny. Don't let
'em kid ya, folks: these old fuckers are in seventh heaven!
