Hattie's Hat used to be the rowdiest dive of them all not too long ago. The first thing you notice upon entering is this 5 foot high "retaining wall" that splits the bar area in half, which some former owner erected to keep the battlin' boozers' brawls from smashing into the customers on the other side who are trying to eat and drink in relative peace (though it still was hard to concentrate on your grilled cheese sandwich when all hell was breaking loose mere inches away from you).

The guy who sold Hattie's to its current owners had a "policy" of not eighty-sixing ANYONE, no matter how out of line they'd get. The end result was that "The Hat" became the Last Stop for the area's most incorrigible drunkards and psychopaths, who knew that their anti-social behavior would never land them out on the street. Some people loved it for that very reason, knowing that they were sure to see a "floor show" every time they entered the place, though such voyeurs certainly entered at their own risk.
