It's easy for the real cup contenders to qualify, but they've earned it. This year's odds-on favorite was Juan Montoya, a good-looking Colombian driver, smug, with the arrogant air that he knew the damn thing was his. People respected him, but nobody liked him, and he happily snubbed all the Indy 500 pre-game events like the Memorial Day parade and the charity fashion show. Montoya was too busy racing in Pennsylvania the day before the Indy 500 — while guys like Hillenberg rode on floats — to bother with the media race. And honestly, he didn't have to — he's that good.
