The rain delay provoked one of the 500's oddest diversions, and one of the few reminders that it was a holiday weekend honoring veterans. Secretary of Defense William Cohen greeted the crowd and had two US Harrier jets buzz the track for fun, a moment both cheered and jeered by fans.
