The Nation, whose reputation stands on a death-to-fat-cats credibility, had an even harder time passing off its high-seas high jinks. When one letter to the editor accused the magazine of getting soft, The Nation's cruise coordinator responded that the cruise business was part of The Nation's efforts to forge "closer links between our writers and our readers." Among other things, coordinator Peggy Randall writes, the magazine will be staging "public debates with other magazines." Now that should be a win-win battle for the ages....
