Hit & Run These people are out of their minds... looked up their web site, and it's amazing how ridiculous they really are. You want to be concerned for Israel? Great - I mean, G-d only knows there's plenty to be concerned about. But to go on at lengths about "the leftist this" and "the leftist that", please... give it a rest. Their twisted, sick revisionist history that they spew, particularly in regards to the way African-Americans have been treated in this country, is revolting, not to mention idiotic. I wouldn't say Martin Luther King ranks up there with Jesus H. Christ himself, but MLK was pretty cool, in his own right! I can't say as I have a problem with a holiday for him. And, in case these fools can't figure out why there's a black history month, wake up. Every facet, every nugget of detail about Western culture, myth and society revolves around white people! Personally, I'd rather learn something different for a change, and learn how other peoples have done and continue to do things. As far as John Rocker is concerned, I don't think he should have necessarily been punished the way he was, but at the same time this guy is a brain-dead meatball who is hopelessly lost and pathetic in his beliefs. And JTF thinks this is a good thing? JTF is no better than Hitler, Idi Amin, the KKK, or any one of the countless groups of individuals who, for whatever sick, insensitive and insecure reasons, choose to lash out at others instead of applying their energies towards constructive solutions. May God be with these misguided losers, because I assure you he's not with them now. Gary Shust <shustg@oceusa.com> You tell 'em, Gary! yr pal, tim I was just reading today's piece with that religious/philosophical fanatic and halfway through came up with a solution I'd like to propose...why doesn't Clinton use this supposed budget surplus to BUY Cuba from Castro, we offer immediate citizenship to all cubans who voluntarily migrate to any state still flying the confederate flag, and then ship the entire state o' Israel (we'll have Disney recreate the sacred temple - and even better, you know it!), essentially killing several birds with one albeit ridiculously expensive, stone. It's better than just giving the money away to corrupt politicians oversees, being a flag waving, tax avoiding patriot myself, there's one thing that pisses me off everytime and that's hearing how are hard earned tax dollars finacne corruption overseas - I saw we work now to keep America's corrupted greenbacks at home. Thank you. Todd Mentch <tmentch@rpa.com> As anybody who has been to the Middle East can tell you, Disney is infinitely better equipped to do justice to the bible than the distressingly small actual biblical locations are. For sheer failure to live up to the hype, no Lucasfilm could top the biblical lands: The pond-sized "sea" of Galilee, the puniness of Damascus, the Cedars of Lebanon's sparse shrubbery. That's the great pain of being an American: The actual monuments of history you see outside the US always seem shrunken and laughable to people raised in the continent-spanning vastness of our bounteous homeland. yr pal, tim Subject: Umm, who gives a damn about the JTF? That was not funny, not clever, and definitely repulsive. JTF needs no relay. Bob Jacobson <bluefire@well.com> My editorial policy is to be clever when I can't be funny, and repulsive when I can't be clever, and I make no apologies for it. yr pal, tim Regarding your interview with Chaim et al about Martin Luther King, blacks and Jews, I can only assume (after checking the calendar to ensure it was not yet April 1st) you have developed a case of SPAM envy with so many other sites being closed down by hackers, that you have tried to find the one story which would by itself generate enough emails to accomplish the same thing. Congratulations! You may have found it. Brady Westwater <wwmalibu@aol.com> Good to hear from you again, Brady. Sadly, even with provocative material like this on the site, the email response was the usual trickle, ranging as always from hostile to indifferent. yr pal, tim exists there an e-mail address by which a bleeding-heart liberal such as I might get in touch with Mr. Pesach and inform him that the smoking of crack remains illegal in our country? <Lawnchair@aol.com> According to Whois, Vancier's address is mishmaat@AOL.COM, but I had no luck with that address, and had to go through much hoopla to get him to talk. All for naught, as it turned out. yr pal, tim need suck stuff. now. pleeeeeeeaaase? suckette Elizabeth Stapleton <estapleton@mediaone.net> We're working on it, Elizabeth. Believe me, we're not trying to create a fake demand spike. But I should remind you that Ty Inc. has announced plans to retire several of its most popular lines, so as soon as we have Suck products back in stock, don't hesitate to buy! The collectibility value is practically infinite! yr pal, tim Hit & Run So, what else is new? Sincerely, Marshall <HPlinth@aol.com> Well, the JTF has changed the set for its television show. It used to be just Chaim alone at a lectern, with a flag of Israel on one side and a portraite of Rabbi Kahane on the other. Now they sit down around a table and discuss. Of such small details do the peoples of the earth learn to study peace. yr pal, tim Please tell me you were hacked and you aren't really responsible for this. The JTF is a tiny, marginal fanatical extremist organization whose views on Israel, Judaism, politics and social issues are wildly out of line with mainstream Orthodox Judaism, and in fact contradict many principles of true Torah-observant Judaism. (I am chasidic.) You shold be embarrassed that such trash appears under your name. Aryeh Zev <aryehzev@yahoo.com>, I think being out of line with mainstream Orthodox Judaism is kind of the JTF's whole point. But for the well-balanced reader, occasional exposure to singleminded firebrands clears the mind and braces the spirit like a nice wintertime swim. yr pal, tim The interview with Chaim Ben Pesach was definitely the scariest interview I've read on your site. Thanks for running it, and thanks for following it with a list of puns... great juxtaposition... Paranoid As the interviewer, I can assure you that Jedediah Purdy was much scarier. I thought he was gonna fly across the table and kick my ass the whole time! yr pal, tim Dear Sucksters: Running a piece like the JTF article in today's (2/10) Hit & Run with hardly any editorial comment, positive or negative, pretty much constitutes free advertising. Nobody, I'm sure including yourselves, really knows what you *should* be doing, but providing free advertising definitely falls in the *shouldn't* category. Have an opinion, damn it, or don't give up the column inches. pat <pmw@cc.gatech.edu> I think editorial comment would have been superfluous, like the editorial comment in "The Hate That Hate Produced," the 1959 Mike Wallace special that put the Nation of Islam on the national map. Chaim Ben Pesach is that rare bird who can be presented without interpretation, in the full faith that Suck readers will always take the most reasonable position. Or the path of least resistance, which is probably the same thing. yr pal, tim Dear Suck, Oy vey...I'm goin' back to bed. p.s. When you decide to make more Suck merchandise, maybe you could print that whole friggin' interview on a sweatshirt so that we brown-nosed white people could wear them and get the shit kicked out of us as seems to be so eminently deserved by some. Yr pal, Kell <kthorne@uswest.net> In fairness to our interview subject, at least one of his phrases - "A nation of Woody Allens" - is one that I would happily approve on any and all Suck merchandise. yr pal, tim Dear Sucksters, In general I admit that I tend to sequester myself in a relatively liberal bubble, unaware of any extreme right, but as a loyal suck reader I was blown away this morning when I came into work and checked out you site as usual and found the interview with Chaim Ben Pasach. At first, I thought it was a joke, but as I continued reading I decided even you guys couldn't make that up. Rarely am I ashamed to be Jewish but the words of this fanatical nut are positively infuriating. Given the historical attempts to extinguish the Jewish race I cannot comprehend how could any Jew, ever, could possess such bigoted, Nazi-esque views. How can he not see his hypocricy? Of course such extreme and ridiculous opinions can't stand up under close scrutiny (he says he can never reconcile with a group that kills babies and basically espouses genocide, yet when asked who he sides with concerning the war in Chechnya, he says "neither one, I hope they both kill each other". Come on. And talking about media, has he ever turned on the t.v. or picked up a newspaper? "Jew-hating Arab-loving media"? Uh, where?...), and will never get the kind of support on a mass scale that he is looking for. Though maybe they said that about Hitler too. I'm sure you will get a flood of mail concerning this interview, but I couldn't resist. Thanks for the interesting, if painful, piece. Emily Fasten <emfasten@hotmail.com> First of all, you should never be ashamed to be Jewish. I don't feel any shame about Pat Buchanan, even though we're both Irish Cathoholics who managed to avoid serving in Vietnam. Second, Chaim Ben Pesach's views are less interesting in themselves than the obsessive articulateness with which he expresses them. As for his extreme opinions never getting wide support: It's worth noting that, in the early 90s at least, Chaim Ben Pesach's tv show achieved ratings into the hundreds of thousands in New York - not bad in the most coveted TV market on the planet. I suspect that dropped off substantially after the assassination of Rabin - a rare example of not being careful what you wish for (and Ben Pesach wished for it endlessly back in the day). But he's definitely not alone in his beliefs. Whether that's cause for concern I don't know, but by presenting him to the world, I'm just doing my job. yr pal, tim |
